About Our Doctor

Dr. Thomas A. Bissell earned his Doctor of Medical Sciences Degree at Harvard Medical School, and earned his Postdoctoral Certificate of Periodontology at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. While at Harvard, Dr. Bissell was awarded the James H. Shaw Award for excellence in biomedical research. He also served on the faculty at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine as a clinical instructor in Periodontology.

Before attending Harvard, Dr. Bissell earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine, where he completed an Honors Periodontics program and earned admission into Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the National Dental Honor Society. Dr. Bissell was also the first Hines Scholar at the Forsyth Dental Research Center.

Currently, Dr. Bissell is the Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Periodontics at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. He instructs third and fourth year dental students and regularly lectures to the Rutgers second year students on a multitude of topics, such as "Soft Tissue Grafting."

Dr. Bissell, a Long Island native, enjoys golf when he is not spending time with his wife, two sons, and daughter.

Dr. Bissell completed the requirements for Board Certification by The American Board of Periodontology, joining a very small percentage of periodontists who have achieved this rigorous educational and practical feat. As a Board Certified Diplomate, Dr. Bissell continues his pursuit to provide the highest quality, most advanced dental care to his patients.

Congratulations to Dr. Bissell for earning the status of Board Certified Diplomate through the American Board of Periodontology

Dr. Bissell completed the requirements for Board Certification by The American Board of Periodontology. As a Board Certified Diplomate, Dr. Bissell joins a very small percentage of periodontists who have achieved this educational and practical feat.

In order to earn the title of Diplomate, Dr. Bissell completed the extensive educational requirements, which include comprehensive written and oral examinations covering all phases of periodontal disease and treatment, as well as preparing and delivering in-depth presentations regarding actual treatment provided to patients. In addition, he must recertify every three years by completing mandatory continuing education credits and self-study.

Dr. Bissell’s hard-earned membership in this distinguished group highlights his dedication to his chosen field. His significant achievements above and beyond basic requirements assures that his patients receive only the highest-quality, cutting edge care by a knowledgeable, experienced professional who is well-versed in the latest advances in dentistry. As a Diplomate, Dr. Bissell intends to live up to his accomplishment by providing his patients with the best care possible.

2017 Long Valley Good Scout Award Winner

Dr. Thomas Bissell was presented the honor of receiving the 2017 Long Valley Good Scout Award. The Patriots Path Council of the Boy Scouts of America sponsored this ceremony. Dr. Bissell and both of his sons, Tyler and James, are all accomplished Eagle Scouts. Dr. Bissell received this award as he served as an exemplary role model for the youth of the community.
