Stroke Awareness Month and LANAP® Treatment

Gum disease (periodontal disease) is a serious dental condition that can affect anyone, regardless of their age or health. Even with healthy oral hygiene habits, the bacteria that is responsible for gum disease could still be present inside of your mouth. In an effort to promote Stroke Awareness Month, Dr. Thomas A. Bissell encourages gum disease patients to learn more about the minimally invasive LANAP® procedure.

Effects of Gum Disease

Gum disease can cause serious consequences with your overall health if it is left untreated. It can affect your heart health and increase your risk of stroke. Gum disease occurs in stages. The preliminary signs of infection include inflammation and swelling, while the more severe symptoms include bone, tissue and tooth loss. Thanks to the LANAP® procedure, gum disease patients are able to stop the progression of periodontal disease to get a new lease on their dental health.

LANAP® Treatment and Gum Disease

The LANAP® procedure is performed with a special dental laser that detects and eliminates any unhealthy gum tissue and gum disease causing bacteria that is present in the mouth. The use of laser dentistry in Chester, NJ to treat gum disease is a more desirable option than traditional periodontal surgical procedures. Unlike traditional treatment methods, the LANAP® procedure is more precise in the removal of unhealthy tissue so that more healthy gum tissue can be saved. The procedure is also less invasive, thus reducing the amount of time that is needed to complete treatment and recover from it.

Gum disease is very common, but it is also highly preventable. With proper treatment and ongoing dental care, most cases of periodontal disease can be controlled. It is important to get this condition diagnosed while it is in its early stages to limit the amount of impact that it has on your dental and heart health.

If you suffer from gum disease and want to find out if the LANAP® procedure is right for you, give us a call at (908) 955-5999 to make an appointment to see periodontist Dr. Thomas A. Bissell.
